Dear Friends,
The stories from Christmas are very symbolic. This weekend we hear of the Magi and the three gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that was given to the baby Jesus. A familiar Christmas Carol, We Three Kings, came from this story.
The Christmas story is actually about five kings: the Magi, Jesus, and Herod. Kings have a position of authority and power. King Herod felt threatened by Jesus so he exercised his authority and power over people by murdering holy, innocent children in an effort of murdering Jesus.
The Magi exercised its power by heading out and pursuing the one true King. We should be like the Magi and become pilgrims ourselves on the journey to find Jesus—seeking out where the real power is.
The Christmas season began on December 25. Let us continue to celebrate the incarnation of our Lord.
