"Parents are the primary educators in the faith"(GDC 255) and with this in mind we offer the following programs to supplement and support our families as they seek to share the gift of faith with their child(ren).
Children's Liturgy of the Word - A special "breaking-open" of the Gospel, in which children hear and learn the Gospel as it is written for them. Offered most every Sunday at the 8:30 and 10:30 am Masses during the school year. Registration is not required. Refer to the Faith Formation Calendar for details.
Kindergarten - Sixth Grade Evening Program - Children will explore and discover what it is to be a son or daughter of God as they learn their faith in prayerful, experiential and fun-filled Wednesday evenings. During the year children participate in:
Service projects geared just for them
Scripture and art projects that hit home the main Bible points
- Family events (Note: these are held in the evening)
Classes meet at Centerville Elementary School from 6:30 - 7:45 PM October through April. Registration in the program is required.
Second Grade Sacrament Preparation - Preparation for the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Eucharist generally takes place in second grade. This course work is woven into the second grade curriculum - however, there is an at home parent/child component, parent classes, and parent/child retreats for both Reconciliation and Eucharist. Registration in the Faith Formation Program is required. Families must also be registered in the Parish.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) - A fabulous fun-filled week of Bible adventure! Children learn about God's great love for each and every one of us. Activities include crafts, games, music, skits, and contests. VBS is typically held the third week of June. Children excitedly look forward to VBS each summer!
Created in the Image of God - This is an important component of all of our children and youth curriculum, which focuses on helping children understand their innate dignity - wonderfully created by God with the right to be treated with love and honor. This is part of the "Protection of Children and Youth Initiative" mandated by the St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese. It helps youth and their parents to become knowledgeable and aware of the world around them by empowering them to respond appropriately and to create a safe and healthy environment.
Our hope is that your child will gain a better understanding of our Catholic faith and traditions in an active, nurturing, age appropriate environment. We are blessed to have committed volunteers who love children. We always welcome any parent who feels called to serve in this rewarding ministry. Training is provided with plenty of support staff, materials and well laid out lesson plans.
